VETWAYS recently presented research findings to social network researchers in Edinburgh, Scotland for the Sunbelt 2024 International Network of Social Network Analysis (INSNA) conference. INSNA is the premier conferenced focused on social support networks in the world.
At the conference, Principal Investigator Dr. Ross Benbow presented a paper written with Co-Principal Investigator Dr. You-Geon Lee centered on the characteristics of student veteran and service social support networks, how these networks differ from those of civilian students, and what kinds of social support are most helpful for these students in college.
Findings indicate student service members and veterans have less access to novel, diverse information and perspectives through their networks than civilians. Veteran network contacts also, though, support them in more ways and are more likely to have their back, an important facet of military trust. The VETWAYS team is currently expanding this analysis into a paper for peer review.
