The VETWAYS research team has begun collecting data for the first phase of their expanded, National Science Foundation-sponsored mixed methods study focused on the social support networks and academic-to-career pathways of undergraduate student service members/veterans (SSM/Vs).
While VETWAYS will continue work among Wisconsin participants, the team has added a new cohort of SSM/Vs from five diverse institutions nationwide, all located near active military bases. These include the University of Maryland-College Park, Wright State University, the University of New Mexico, Middle Tennessee State University, and the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Data collection will entail surveying SSM/Vs as well as undergraduate students at each institution without military experiences so VETWAYS can compare the social support and academic pathways of both groups. Researchers will also interview SSM/V volunteers on their experiences and social interactions in college.
This phase of data collection will conclude in April 2023. Check back during the fall of 2023 to see results from our efforts.
